Artist Statement:

Trying to remember what it was that got me taking pictures in the first place is difficult, it wasn’t one specific thing but a culmination of events. Relatives that were photographers and have since died inspired me in some ways, but it was just really coming back to the basics of what photography is to me, a way to capture moments. I'm immersed in the thought of capturing moments, as we will never get them back. As a result, these moments ultimately seem to be more important to me than anyone else, but it’s always been like that for me. This was more so when I was beginning this path, when I used to photograph friends, girlfriends, relatives and rain on my window, anything that held a moment or alternatively held a cinematic thread to it interested me. I've always been inspired by cinema and soundtracks much more than by any other photographers.
Each photographer has their own vision, as do I, and I'm not interested in copying. The aim is to show these people as I see them, not how I think they should be seen, so bearing that in mind, there is an element of truth in my work, but also an element of cinema, because as with cinema, your portraying a story with truth and metaphors and real feelings that the viewer can relate to, and I am trying to do that. It’s like portraying a biography in a single frame, sometimes words are not needed. All you need to know is right there in their eyes.
