Alison Ealey Artist Statement My work is often a self-indulgent obsession with the idea of being forgotten. The small insignificant events, places, times and memories that are treasured then discarded. I often use ‘Found’ images reproducing them on a large scale I then assign text to the images - self-penned prose typed on a 1930s typewriter, designed to reunite the lost photographs with a sense of identity through a narrative with the audience. The natural progression of this work is my desire to produce images that create an emotional response from the viewer, in the same way that my collected images do for me. I want to produce images that allow the viewer their own narrative. The study of older photographs has allowed me develop my own style. I tend to focus strongly on composition and work mainly in black and white to allow simple form and texture to shine through. I work mostly in photography, print and paint although these often cross over or merge.
