Artist Statement

My paintings are abstracted soundscapes informed by elements of contemporary music and the work of 20th century abstract expressionists such as Pierre Soulages.  Each piece consists of various aspects associated with the construction of a sound, from dark heavy excess to euphoric highs played out through the application of colour and density.  The emotive quality of a chosen sound sets the paintings apart, resulting in distinct individual tones, yet managing to keep the coherency of series.  While not being aware of the particular musical inspiration, the viewer is invited to explore and translate the rhythmic quality of the marks into a language of their own.  All paintings are oil on canvas in varying sizes.
