I
am and have been a practicing artist for over 20 years; I graduated from
Salford University with a BA Hons Degree in Visual Art and Culture
in 1997. I have maintained a studio practice since and up to the present
time.
My work practice has been a means of giving visual sensation to unconscious
aspects of self.
My paintings are a means of giving material form to immaterial thought
and feeling.
My non representational works are heavily informed by high modernist abstract
theory; I work from the premise of formal autonomy as an expressive device
and of perceiving the painting as a critical object, the aim being to
critically evaluate via instinct in other words the paintings are completed
when they “feel right”. When the aesthetic image corresponds
to my intuitive feeling.
I have recently become more interested in the pixelated image initially
as a conceptual means of rendering three dimensional subject upon a two
dimensional object. These are currently ongoing in a state of evolution
as other possible ways of utilising the figurative as a system of meaning
separate from the purely formal, are becoming evident.
