Artist Statement

Music means different things to different people. For me, music has inspired my work because I associate it with people, places and situations from the past and often the present. I have chosen to use hip hop music to help express various emotions and transfer them onto paintings and drawings. Assumptions and criticisms are made on what is seen as shallow or representational. But the work is also about what is not there. What can be seen visually acts as a shield for the many other issues that lie beneath.
