Ed Chapman Artist Statement Ed Chapman is one of the UK’s leading mosaic artists. He has a style that is instantly recognisable and he achieves incredibly detailed results using hundreds of fragments of tile. His amazingly accurate mosaic portraits are also the result of hours of painstaking effort. Each portrait needs to be looked at up close to appreciate the quality that has been achieved. His portraits in ceramic tile are constructed with up to 2,000 fragments - some not much bigger than a pin head - and carefully placed in position. All work is waterproof and tiled around the edges. He says: “I am constantly thinking of new ideas and new subjects I would like to turn into mosaics. I am never short of ideas and am pleased to consider any commission and am always interested to hear new proposals. ”
