Artist
statement:
“You
are really indecently vain of your appearance”.
At the moment,
this project is only at its research and
experimental stages. These ten photographs show my first steps to
a complete project. Mainly I am concentrating my work around B.D.D (Body
Dysmorphic Disorder), which is a preoccupation with an imagined physical
defect in appearance or a vastly exaggerated concern about a minimal defect.
I am also dealing with beauty products and how they are used to form the
body in a way that is pleasing to today’s media saturated society.
The products and vast advertising control our notions of physical appearance
verses reality. Is it our vanity, our inner sickness, spreading to the
outside of our bodies, which we perceive as hideous deformities?
Questions
and comments/ideas would be greatly appreciated from fellow artists.
