Artist Statement:
Local Artist to Exhibit Paintings in Florence Italy Local Hamburg artist Eric Armusik has been selected to exhibit his paintings at the 2003 Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy. His paintings will be on display from December 6-14 at the Fortezza Da Basso. An international committee of art critics selected his artwork among thousands of artists worldwide. Artists are invited to exhibit only by nomination from the committee. Eric Armusik’s was born in Pennsylvania in 1973. He received his BFA and Art History Minor from Pennsylvania State University. He studied abroad in Todi, Italy in 1995 where he traveled the country and completed his Art History Minor with an emphasis in 17th Century Italian Painting. His paintings have been exhibited at Madison Square Gardens, NYC and several galleries and museums in Pennsylvania including the Allentown Art Museum and the Reading Art Museum. Armusik’s works reflect the dark emotional side of childhood that many people experience in one form or another, but are often afraid to confront. He explores the relationship between discipline and abuse in his childhood to unresolved problems as an adult. In each painting, a door is opened where he purges his confessions onto canvas. The Italian painters Caravaggio, Artemesia Gentileschi and Tintoretto influence his paintings. Eric Armusik is a modern day renaissance man. Though he considers art his forte, he is talented in many other areas. He is trained as a carpenter and has restored much of his 130 year old Victorian home in Hamburg. He is a skilled wood worker designing and building elaborate fireplaces, bathtub enclosures and furniture. He is also the owner and art director of a graphic design/website business Armusik Design. His designs, including the Historic Hamburg logo, banners, billboards and signs outside of town are part of the revitalization campaign for Hamburg.
