Artist Statement: I am a mix of Japanese and English, and have a love for Japanese culture and design. As a child, I was fascinated by the visual contrasts of Japan. I adored the bright, cute toys and manga cartoons, and at the same time was mesmerised by the simplistic beauty ot traditional Japanese prints and calligraphy. Today, I am greatly influenced by the calm minimalism within Japanese design, yet simultaneously have a love for bold colours and pretty details. I like to keep the lines in my work clean, laid back and simple; I like my colours to contrast this by being bright and sweet. I take inspiration from fashion, which is the main subject within my work. I love the drama of high fashion. I am intruiged by the transformation of dressing up and try to evoke different moods in a similar way within my work.
