THE UK’S BIGGEST NATIONAL CREATIVITY AWARDS PROGRAMME IS BACK FOR
A SECOND YEAR
The search for the UK’s best young creatives is on again…
Details
of re:creation 2003/4 – the second year of the national
tour and awards programme that aims to encourage, recognise and reward
creative talent amongst young people throughout the UK - have been announced
by Topshop and Dazed & Confused.
Following
on from the success of its inaugural year, re:creation will again be kicking
off with a national tour of seven UK cities this autumn. Featuring seminars,
high profile guest-speakers and a string of parties, the re:creation tour
will be enlisting the next generation of creative talent to enter original
work across six award categories.
All
entries to re:creation will be judged by a celebrated panel of industry
players including David Bailey, Katherine Hamnett, Julie Verhoeven and
Mary Anne Hobbs. The shortlist will be announced early next year and the
awards will culminate in a gala ceremony in March.

SUPPORTING CREATIVITY IN THE UK… "re:creation last year was
a massive success" comments Nicki Bidder, Editor-in-Chief of Dazed
& Confused. “The tour visited six cities, putting on seminars
and parties, and involving over 60 speakers talking on a near one-to-one
basis to about 2,500 budding creatives. The awards themselves received
over 3000 entries from 500 colleges and universities – which were
reviewed by 24 high profile judges to produce a very strong shortlist
of 32 entries - and finally ending with six winners who've already gone
on to bigger things. "However, we're confident that re:creation is
working on much broader level than just helping six people win an award.
re:creation is about getting out there - out of London - and going to
meet, speak, listen to and encourage the many thousands of massively talented
young creatives around the country.”
"Dazed has always nurtured and embraced new talent" comments
Rankin, Photographer and co-founder Dazed & Confused. "And in
a way re:creation is the logical evolution of what we're about. We've
always thought that many of the best people in the arts come from and
continue to work outside of London... re:creation is about not waiting
for that talent to come to us, but going out there and proving we want
to support them.
"The
fact is that no-one was doing anything on this scale before - and we could
never have done it by ourselves. This isn't a mandatory name check of
Topshop - without them this simply could not have happened. It takes vision
and bravery to stick your name and budget behind a project like this -
where there is never going to be a direct business kick-back. They deserve
full recognition and praise for their continued involvement, support and
direction.” "Probably the most striking thing about last year,
was the tour and the amount of people who are turning up to the seminars
up and down the country” comments Jane Shepherdson, Brand Director
for Topshop. “re:creation is direct and relevant to a large group
of people - and is fulfilling a role that is clearly in demand. It just
makes you wonder why someone hasn't done anything on this scale before..."
