IMAGES 29 ­ The Best of Contemporary British Illustration

20 ­ 30 July 2005, at The Mall Galleries, The Mall (near Admiralty Arch), London SW1, open daily, 10am ­ 5pm including Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. Free admission. Please note that the exhibition is closed during the lunch time talks.

The Association of Illustrators presents Images 29 from 20 to 30 July 2005 at the Mall Galleries in London. The show includes 200 (touring 70) award winning works from the established and new talents of British illustration. Images 29 provides an ideal overview of the wealth and variety of work being produced in the UK today from traditional line drawings to the newest digital techniques.
On display are the original artworks featured in the only jury-selected illustration annual in the UK and commissioned by such companies as the BBC, Royal Mail, Conran Ltd and the national press. This year¹s gold award winners in seven classifications are: Adrian Johnson for Advertising, Andy Potts for Books, Fred Van Deelen for Children¹s Books, Lara Harwood for Design & New Media, Nick Dewar for Editorial, Irfana Biviji for Student, and Russell Cobb for Unpublished.

All the work is published in the Images 29 annual, out in July 2005. Images 29 reveals not just the outstanding talent of a particular year but a remarkable résumé of the trends and turbulence that have shaped today¹s industry.

The Art of Illustration ­ AOI round table about the value and position of Illustration within the Arts.

Following Tom Lubbock¹s comment on the Images 29 Critic¹s Award, the Association of Illustrators is organising a round table with Tom Lubbock and other prominent people of the arts and illustration industry. The intention is to open a debate on illustration not only to the wider public but also to illustrators and their clients. The debate will focus on illustrators¹ relationship with the world of fine art but also artists¹ relationship with illustration.

Presentation of Awards Winners and Critic¹s Award at IMAGES 29 ­ The Best of Contemporary British Illustration

The winners of IMAGES, the Best of Contemporary British Illustration competition in the various categories Advertising, Books, Children¹s Books, Design and New Media, Editorial, Unpublished and Students will be awarded by Andrzej Klimoswki, well known illustrator and Senior Tutor of Illustration at the Royal College of Art.
Tom Lubbock, illustrator and art critic for The Independent will award the IMAGES 29 Critic¹s Award presenting his favourite piece of work from all published illustrations in Images 29.
Tickets: £8.00 in advance, £10.00 at the door.

Spotlight on Illustrators  - Lunchtime  talks

The AOI is organising Œ Spotlight on Illustrators¹, a series of lunchtime talks held by award winning illustrators of the Images 29 competition.
The talks will give an insight into the making of an illustration from the delivery of the brief to the final artwork. The speakers are:

Digital Inspiration for Traditional Artists at the Artists & Illustrators (A&I) Exhibition.

On the occasion of the Artists & Illustrators Exhibition, the AOI and Corel jointly present the Corel Painter IX seminar about the ways a traditional artist can experiment with new techniques and mediums using Painter IX, Corel's unique and powerful Natural-Media® painting and illustration software.
