Medulla Intimata
291 Bar Tuesday 20th July 8pm-11pm Free entry
Tina Gonsalves and Tom Donaldson, artists who form the Clutch responsive
video collaboration, will preview their latest project, Medulla Intimata,
an experiment in responsive video jewellery portraiture. Tina and Tom
will each wear a necklace in which a video screen is embedded. The video
displayed is created in real-time in direct response to conversations
they have with participants in the gallery. Tina and Tom will relax in
291 bar and chat to anyone around. As they do so, video portraits of them
will appear on the jewellery, at times cold and formal, at others lush
and flirtatious, depending on the tone and mood of the conversation they
are having. The net result will be a dynamic, occasionally awkward, often
vulnerable, and sometimes inciteful portrait of them, their interactions
and their response to those around them. Medulla Intimata will be previewed
at 291 prior to an international tour. This show will test the effectiveness
of the responses. Medulla Intimata has been supported by the Banff New
Media Institute in Canada, The Australia Arts Council, Arts Queensland
and ArtSway.
