Treasure
of the Month
A MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON
The French miniature painter Jean-Baptiste Isabey painted many portraits
of Napoleon, but, after the Emperor’s fall from power, was also
quite prepared to paint his former enemies. The Wallace Collection owns
a fine version of Isabey’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington, perhaps
Napoleon’s greatest opponent.
STEPHEN DUFFY will discuss this miniature on Monday 7 June and Monday
28 June at 1pm.
