UNKLE Exhibition & Live Show

5 - 8 September 2003

UNKLE (James Lavelle and Richard File) will be releasing their new album Never, Never Land on 1 September 2003. In celebration, thisisrealart and the ICA present a four-day exhibition and special live show at the ICA from 5-8 September. The exhibition will show the seminal graphics, art and promotional elements - from sleeve designs and toys, to videos and innovative packaging - which have made James, his label Mowax and his UNKLE project one of the most influential acts in both the music and art worlds.

More specifically, the exhibition will include an 8 x 16' canvas painted by Futura for the album artwork; large format prints of photographs by William Bankhead (long term Mowax collaborator) documenting the painting of the canvas; a full collection of UNKLE record sleeves including rare and unreleased promos; the full collection of UNKLE toys including limited edition Kubrik sets and one-off prototypes, plus limited edition Bathing Ape UNKLE T-shirts.

The live show (Mon 8 Sept) will include Unkle Soundsystem featuring James Lavelle and Richard File plus special guests, DJs and animated visuals by Unorthodox Styles. There will also be two films screened during the live show. Eye for An Eye is an 11 minute animated film based on original artwork by 3D of Massive Attack, written by James Lavelle, Shynola and 3D and directed by Shynola and Ruth Lingford (this will be available for sale on DVD from ICA bookshop). There will also be a 9 minute 'making of the artwork' film of Futura painting the canvas, shot by Ben Drury and James Lavelle and edited by Unorthodox Styles.

Plus, James Lavelle and Richard File will do a signing in the ICA book shop during the evening, where exclusive UNKLE merchandise (t-shirts, prints, CDs and LPs) will be on sale. This will include a new limited edition KUBRICK toy, only available in the ICA bookshop.
