Menier Gallery 19 –
24 July 2004 Whether you are a manufacturer looking for the next big thing, or simply a member of the public after a new sofa, commissioning design is more about finding the right designer than simply taking a shopping trip. MEET YOUR MAKER is a new take on the graduate show that focuses on the importance of these relationships. As the title suggests, it is as much about meeting fresh young designers as it is about seeing and buying the original work they have already produced. Ten designers are involved who have all recently finished their studies in furniture design at London Metropolitan University. Incorporating the former London College of Furniture, the University is London’s leading furniture institution, which is also home to the innovative Furniture Works project. MEET YOUR MAKER is an opportunity for the public, retailers and manufacturers to meet and see the work of designers who have produced contemporary furniture ranging from the exquisitely crafted to the witty and ephemeral. During the show visitors will be invited to declare their own design needs and commission new work. In a bid to show their commitment to investing in new design talent, Boss Design will launch the Boss Mentoring Award for innovative design at the MEET YOUR MAKER exhibition. The Award recognises the most promising new designer who will work on a new product for the Boss Design portfolio. The winner will be supported through the complete commercial process of making their design successful.
