Oh!
Contraire: An Exhibition from Goldsmiths 20
- 26 March 2004, 10.00am-5.00pm daily Thirteen Fine Art students from Goldsmiths College, University of London are to exhibit a range of works incorporating video, sculpture, drawing and photography, in a tongue-in-cheek show that will take place in the catacombs of St. Pancras Church in London, Euston. The artists have not been restricted by a particular theme, however this self-aware exhibition is injected with a strong element of humour. The work deals with a range of ideas including the objectivity of meaning, linguistics and literature, and feminine beauty in a western society. Video work is interspersed with sculpture and drawings and many pieces have been created specifically for the space which is curiously enchanting, enhancing the atmosphere of adventure and escapade. Says exhibition organiser and exhibiting artist, Natasha Dervish, of her own work - though it is a comment that could apply to the show as a whole: “It is the act of perceiving rather than what is professed that is of significance, with a little bit of comedy thrown in for good measure!” The
exhibition is FREE and all are welcome.
