James Biuckley Artist Statement My work is largely about contemporary English ethnic identity and cultural appropriation. Drawing upon historic English medieval iconography and folklore of crusaders, knights, kings and queens, I splice a romantic view of Englishness with the increasingly growing contemporary influence of African-American popular culture upon English male youths; bling, graffiti fashion, language, music and so on. Informed by localised experiences, and theological contexts, I ask, "what is it now to be English? How much have things changed?"
