Artist Statement My work is primarily fuelled by a passion for building objects or images from my imagination. Childish symbolism, personal nightmares, and adult desires, all meet in costume pieces, theatrical objects and digital or manual illustration. The highly successful University of Leeds 2006 degree show, '25 Degrees', showcased my main interest, installation. Taking the objects I make, their meretricious glamour and exuberant excess, I enjoy structuring spaces of or for transformation. I am currently working on finding a venue for 'Brummagem', an installation idea following on from my degree show piece which will display what can happen when cheap materials, individual creative vision/desire, and artistic discourse collide in an explosion of the playfully fake. The illustrative works I produce are more concerned with creating a pictorial 'fantasy' space for the objects and symbols I play with. Winged students become angels, small sketches of unicorns become living creatures flitting about the space, costume headed humans live in forests and everything is slightly different to the usual fairytale. I work in
sculpture/installation for my own pleasure and produce illustrative images
for both myself and to commission. Please feel free to contact me with
