Statement
After
many years as a sculptor I decided on a career change and obtained a degree
in product design. However, the experience only highlighted the need for
my own creative freedom and so I became self-employed as a landscape designer,
which utilized my sculptural skills but still gave me a great deal of
scope for creativity. During this period it was often apparent that suitable
sculpture, specifically for garden display, was often difficult to find.
It was during the construction of a garden design that I discovered concrete
could be used as a direct sculptural medium without the need for molds.
Concrete proved to be an ideal material for both my own style and for
with-standing the elements in an outdoor environment.
Sensuality, elegance and an honest desire to lift the human spirit underpin
the nature of my work. I rarely decide what a piece of work should be
in advance. Nothing is planned, believing instead that this intuitive
'of the moment' approach makes my work all the more relevant, not only
as a reflection of my own values, but also as a representation of social
collective desires.
