Artist
Statement:
My
work is about the city. It’s an expression of my personal response
to environments that are often rushed past and ignored but which to me
have great beauty and significance.
Influenced by my background
in Architecture, I take my inspiration from the built environment, exploring
my urban surroundings through photographic images which form the starting
point for my work.
A new series of work
called ‘Up My Street’ uses digital photographic montage. These
pieces explore neighbourhoods of London in an attempt to condense and
reveal their character.
I aim to reflect the
visual complexity of urban landscapes and my pieces are often based on
the graphic qualities of shop signage and other elements of local streetscapes.
The work is an exploration of the city, and a celebration of it’s
vibrancy and chaos. I try to reveal the unexpected beauty that can be
found in an urban environment and my work evokes the atmosphere of a metropolis
with its visual jumble of buildings, signs, graffiti and billboards.
