Artist Statement:

The main focus of my work is to explore the restriction and movement of the male form. Latex straps are constructed to wrap around the lower half of the body of the wearers, the intention being to focus on the on the sexual context and the homoerotic theme.
The overlapping of genders is a central and integral characteristic of the belts and the images produced. Although there is a strong masculine representation, an equal feminine quality exists through the actual composition of the pieces. This assists in the belts being removed from its traditional settings and also from it being seen as a fashion accessory.
The belts have been comprised of cast latex and rubber with silver and other metal components for buckles. They have been strengthened by muslins and cotton fibres to the belts a practical purpose. The images produced where not to show how the belts where to be worn but to continue with the crossing of the genders further and illustrate the sexual context that they designed for.
