Artist Statement:

The images shown are taken from a project called the Toy Farm. A series of architectural toys are to be unleashed onto the runway of former Hong Kong airport, Kai Tak. Each toy is automated, performing a specific task. The toys are miniscule in comparison with the vast expanse of the runway. However, over a long period of time, they have a significant, wide spread effect on the runway as they steadily work their way over the tarmac. One function of the toys is to process ground pollution caused by 75 years of jet fuel spillage. To do this, they promote the disintegration of the runway surface and plant Hybrid Willow trees and Purple Clover whose aggressive root systems are highly effective in breaking down ground contaminates. Devices include: The Tortoise Drill, Big Gun, Temperamental Flower Feeder, Runway Massager, Lazy Boy, Red-Carpet Layer, Donut Floater and many more.
