Artist Statement: My paintings are inspired by landscape photographs. I am particularly interested in digitally enhanced landscape photographs and use images whose colours are exaggerated as source material. This may be for example, in calendars, holiday brochures, postcards or books. I look at how the photographs may distort the landscapes they depict and exaggerate these elements further. I use large brush strokes to mimic the image pixels, choose bright, unnatural colours and work in a loose style to express movement and energy. |
