I am drawn to environments that possess a beauty that is rough, honest and unselfconscious, and I seek an equivalent within the language of abstract painting. I imbue the surface of my paintings with emotion and concept rather than depicting an overt narrative, and strive to create evocative paintings that are capable of holding nuance whilst displaying power and strength of form.

By combining an imposing physical presence with a surface that is delicate and inviting, I aim to create a dynamic relationship between aggression and frailty, the monumental and the ephemeral. My work is inspired by the tension that exists between control and disorder, between what we feel sure of and that which remains a mystery.

My paintings reflect my desire for a simultaneous expression of passion and reason. This underlies the dichotomies that appear as a common thread throughout my painting and continues to be the impetus for my practice. In an increasingly insular and throwaway society, I feel there is a need for painting that connects with the human spirit, articulating our common experiences to inspire contemplation and reflection.
