Artists statement The work I produce projects a strange intimacy to the viewer: it is familiar and descriptive, but also strange and unreal. This approach disrupts any specific identity of the forms within the painting. Tangible forms are made through the process of pouring, and layering the paint. I use a mixture of oil paint, acrylic paint, glass paint, water and turpentine, applied in two styles, pouring (uncontrolled), and hand painted (controlled). Controlled pouring thickens the depth of the painting, thin and articulate add to the detail. My work includes processes exploring the properties of paint, by allowing the paint to become organic, a substance that moves on the surface of the canvas. Time and energy are important elements within my practice, with each new layer that is added a change occurs the piece transforms. Images are hinted at within the pieces, the viewer can decipher the image how they see it.
