Artist Statement

My art work is inspired by my life, my emotions, my personal interests and the people that are around me as I address issues that I deal with on an everyday basis. I am passionate about producing work within stitch and fabric which to me provides a comforting feel within my art work. Some of the issues that I deal with are dramatic and brash which provide a contrast to the materials that I work with. By using soft textural fabrics and threads I can disguise my thoughts and feelings amongst a rich detailed assortment of fabrics and layers, until examined up close and in detail.
I am stimulated by knitting, felting and embroidery whether hand or machine which works well when highly decorated and upon first glance conceal an ideology behind layers, colour and texture. Hand and needle felting is a skill that I am developing as I feel that they would contribute well to stitch, and give me further areas of exploration and development.
Scale is exceptionally important within all my work as it challenges the different ways that I work with and manipulate materials.
