Artist Statement

"Perfect freedom is reserved for the man who lives by his own work and in that work does what he wants to do." R.G. Collingwood

Ever since I graduated in Graphic Design I have found myself drawing & painting almost (it seems) constantly. I put it down to the fact that the three year course was obviously predominantly computer based. So I missed the traditional mediums so often used in previous work.

A few years before, I discovered a form of art (Pen &
Ink) which to my amazement paid off (literally), as I have had many a commission and continue to do so. I also sell drawings and paintings at a distinguished art gallery in my home town. As my 'Pen & Ink's' are very detailed it was a pleasure to find a complete contrast in my work (hence the paintings).

My paintings can be quirky, moody, political, or damn right aggressive! (It depends on what mood I'm in).
But hey! Versatility is the name of the game isn't it?

I don't like the idea of categorizing my art or working under a specific genre, because for all I know I could be doing something completely different tomorrow. Like most, I live for the moment and do as I see fit!

At present however, Pop Art has influenced me greatly.
It's the dramatic 'Look At Me' statement of an image that appeals. The same can most certainly be said for graffiti or 'street art', of which I have always had admiration for. In my opinion, some of the greatest contemporary artists' are indeed graffiti artists'.

For me, art has always been a true freedom of expression (bear with me on this). What fascinates me most is that one simple image really can say a thousand words and if it's perceived in a manner of different ways, then even better! It instanty becomes a talking point!
