Statement for Major Project 'FOLD'
FOLD_______Cinema, Bar + Restaurant
The design is developed from the 21st century search for choice, quality
and interaction.
The venue is a restaurant, Bar and cinema complex with smaller individual
cinema rooms. These cinema rooms allow groups of people to watch a movie
in an intimate relaxed environment on a 'pay per view' basis. The rooms
give up to 6 friends the opportunity to use a space freely with the option
to have food and drink delivered to the room whilst you watch a movie.
On entry to the venue customers would pass through the reception where
they would collect barcode inscribed bands that would be used to activate
touch screen menus throughout the building. This would be paid for on
exiting the building.
Computers are used to access all areas, facilities and services allowing
for the personalisation of orders. This gives the customer freedom and
the ability to interact with their immediate environment as well as with
other environments.
The design approaches the ides of personalisation and digitisation of
an interior, creating areas that are intimate as well as social.
The venue encapsulates a feeling of style, no pressures and no formalities
with the maximum of choice.
The interaction through computers does not detract from the personal touch
of a waiter but enhances it.
Personal Statement
Design for me is all about the solving of puzzles, trying to make everything
fit and work well within a precise framework whilst also being aesthetically
interesting and ultimately functional.
