Artist Statement: 'Miradas
traseras'. Backward glances. A look towards the places recognised by the
other half in sleep and promptly shifted back-stage before the curtain
rises. Places marked only by those who pass through swiftly on their way
to what beats and shines with relentless purpose. Depositories for what
wants to be hidden from above. Spaces caught between identities, slowly
waiting to be registered in the archive of bespoke labels. The spaces depicted are presented in portrait format, intended to heighten a sense of solitude and confrontation through a proportional relationship to the body. As opposed to letter-box panoramas, my photographs extend vertically from floor to ceiling, situating the viewer head-on within. A one-point perspective view is used to create a corridor-like sense of depth that is subverted by the superimposition of a second scene. Space becomes infinite and ambiguous rather than absolute and definitive.
