Artist's
        Statement:
      My work is
concentrated in a broad investigation of how our surroundings shape or
        mindset, and the
ways in which individual minds seek to bring order to their surroundings.
        This involves me
searching for and highlighting perhaps unexpected links between periods
        in time, objects or places.
I am also particuarly interested by consumer culture, the way people define
        themselves through
an accumulation of mass produced possessions.
The best way to describe what I 'produce' would probably be mindgames.
        For me the production of
the work is a social event taking place in the mind of the viewer. employ
        very little transformation of materials-
for me the arrangement of materials is more important. The act of creation
therefore becomes a process of selection.
      I called
my installation for the degree show 'Supportive Structures'. It was an
acknowledgement of the fact that I have spent the
last three years passing through an institution, with all its rules, codes
and rituals. I have connected this into a broader
investigation of the multifarious institutions our society is based around.
Western society likes institutions- it's as simple as that- They make
us feel safe. On the one hand we say a certain kind of institutionalisation
        is virtuous,
but on the other we condemn it and associate it with failure.
      Maybe I will
make some Real Art soon in the future if you are lucky- keep watching!
