Artist Statement:

Observation is the root of all my work, visually and socially, both on local, international levels.

The local interest is a reflection of everyday, mundane situations and places. Things we see day in day out, but never really ‘look’ at, or try to understand. Places tourists don’t see and councils seem to forget about. It’s a chance to show another side of Cornwall, a not so perfect one: unemployment, neglect of housing areas, the waiting for New Deal cheques, and the endless conversion of old building into new ‘theme pub’, nightclub, amusement arcade, and junk shop. I’m also interested in modern British culture. Things, and people I’m surrounded by each day, boy racers, fast food, lads, football, fish and chips, fast cars, amusement arcades, etc.
Also I’ve been looking at the hostility between Iraq and America, and how we are led to see through the TV and newspapers.
