Artist Statement

Project: The website is the best explanation of my work. Never really one for statements I'll just say this-

The Dark Lumps (01 - 02) are both solid balls of paint.

Dark Lump 01 was started in 1996
Dark Lump 02 was started in 1998

They both begin from a drop of paint on my little finger.

The paint I use is a mixture of different types of paint and colour, it's a combination of oil and water based mediums, from handmade artists oil paints to household emulsions.

It's all mixed together in a large vat to make a gooey, grey, gunk that I call my 'prima materia' ('prima materia' is what alchemists used as their starting ingredient on the path to making the philosophers stone).
