ARTIST
STATEMENT
I
graduated from Goldsmiths College, London, in 1970 with a degree
in graphic design, and worked in design and photographic studios
in the south east of England for a few years.
In
1976 I started my own freelance business, Stonecastle Graphics,
and I now specialise in creating, designing and Œpackaging¹
illustrated books for major UK publishers. I am a designer, photographer
and artist I have exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy Summer
Exhibition and my photographs have appeared on the covers and
pages of numerous books.
I
am fascinated by light and pattern in both naturalistic and urban
environments, and my photographs attempt to capture the effects
of sunlight, texture and shadow in everyday moments. I also combine
traditional photography with digital manipulation to create multi-layer
graphics and posters.
In
September 2001 I was in New York with my wife and daughter and
we witnessed the devastating terrorist attack on the Twin Towers
of the WTC on the morning of the 11th. I captured some of those
moments on film. Some of these images have been published in national
newspapers and magazines and appeared in a special memorial exhibition
³Impact² at the Old Saatchi Gallery in London on the
first anniversary of the attack all proceeds were donated to the
official NY Firefighters Disaster Fund. More of my 9/11 pictures
can be seen on my website
www.photos-september11.co.uk
I
am continuing to experiment with photography, exploring traditional
and digital image-making in both black & white and colour.
