Pippa Westoby Artist Statement To me, a letter, regardless of style, is a beautiful, elegant shape....so it deserves to look its best!! I like to work with the shape of the stone, so I particularly love rough, natural stone, as this gives me the opportunity to play with the letters. All my work is hand drawn and then hand carved. I have an HND in Graphic Design, I trained in letter cutting at the David Kindersley Workshop and I've worked with top letter cutters, Tom Perkins and Eric Marland. Despite all these influences, I've managed, over the years to develop my own style. I've recently turned my hand to glass engraving, which is proving to be rather popular! Most of my work involves commissioned memorials, house plaques etc. but when I'm asked to exhibit at a Gallery or Art Fair, I'm always asked to carve lettered pebbles....which go down a storm!!
