Artist Statement

“Robert’s work is unique, vibrant, fresh, humorous, innovative, inspirational, bold, quirky, direct, diverse, striking, edgy” or so it has often been said (although admittedly not all in the same sentence!).

I use the me dium of photography to create innovative, vibrant & unique images, that are sometimes humorous but never, never dull!

My work in the mid to late 90’s was created using 2 large format plate cameras. With these I was able to create complex multiple exposures on sheets of 10” x 8” transparency film. The majority of my images from this period are often initially thought to be the result of Photoshop wizardry, which is praise indeed!

During 2000 I was able to begin experimenting with high-resolution digital capture, & was blown away by its imme diacy & quality. I was hooked & imme diately retrained in the dark art of digital imaging. All my work since this period has been captured digitally & printed (by myself) as archival giclée prints.

My inspiration comes from everywhere (& everything!), from Hockney & Frank Lloyd Wright, through to video games, films & design. The list is truly endless.

I was born in Huddersfield in 1969, spent 1990 to 2005 in London & recently returned to Huddersfield .
