Artist's Statement In my work I reject the Romantic notion of subjective self-reference. The strong communicative tension that brings my work to life does not originate from a need to tell (my) stories. Instead it originates from a need to give the artwork an affirmative presence – to make it into an emblem, a stamp. The idea contained in each painting is always very simple and the result intentionally a bold statement. The simple composition of each work contains a condensed variety of symbolic meanings: classic images charged with powerful iconic power (such as the crucifix, the Lacanian use of the phallus etc.). Together, the whole expresses an imaginary world where sex and the sacred mix perversely together, and where the primitivism of urban graffiti manages to blend with the archaic primal energy of the Sardinian popular tradition.
