Artist
Statement:
My work deals with
the process of painting, focusing on the way in which paint reacts with
different types of paint and the other materials it comes in contacts
with. I would not say that my work is, complex, I think that you either
like it or you do not. I create interesting pieces to look at, exploring
those simple things that may often be over looked, I try to encourage
the viewer to take a second look and see that it is in fact very beautiful.
This has been developed from earlier works where I found that I was more
excited by the ‘blobs’ that had dripped onto the floor.
The use of Colour
is important to me. The colours I use come from many different sources,
other paintings, ceramics and glass ware, fashion and quite often colours
that just come to me.
The current scale
I am working with is so that the viewer is not restricted to the way the
painting should be seen, the square can be turned at any angle and show
something different, I have one way I believe it should be viewed but
somebody else will have another, I do not paint from any one direction,
nor do I plan exactly where I want it to go, that happens as I go along,
a lot is left up to chance. I see all of my work as experiments. The paint
has a control over the final outcome; therefore I can never really foresee
the end product until it is there. I enjoy this way of working; I find
it an exciting process, not having total control over the painting. Constantly
experimenting leads me on to other ideas, processes and techniques to
explore at later dates.
Overall I am interested
in new processes, colours and making interesting pieces of art that encourage
people to look closer, want to touch, and wonder how they were made.
