Sandeep Biswas Artist Statement I am a photographer who grew up in a family of artists. Initially like all young street photographers I started taking pictures of people & places. This was the influence of photo journalism through books & magazines. “BEYOND REFLECTIONS”the project ‘beyond reflections’ on which I am working presently is a surreal and graphic depiction of the urban world that I have been photographing. I like my photographs to be surreal along with having a graphic quality. I have been working my pictures from the old city of Delhi. Old Delhi is one of the examples of urbanization and commercialization of a traditional city. This part of the city being the busiest & always crowded, still has some quite corners decaying from its historical past. There are doors, windows, gates, walls, shutters and even the animals from where I create my images. My work is a pictorial journey. I am capturing images & rearranging them according to my creative sensibilities and understanding of the world around me to form each work. I am broadening my journey of photography into a more experimental base. I am composing one or more images as each work. I am creating an abstraction out of reality. A reality which transforms into a surreal interpretation. My work becomes a reconstruction from the images that I photograph. Here I repeat or compose one or more images to construct every work. I create work that is thought provoking & visually stimulating. I look for images that normally don’t meet the normal eye and are overlooked by the common eye. Textures, Colors & abstract forms that are a result of man made structures as well as its decay with time finds me such subjects to work on & reinterpret them with a new visual identity.
