Art
and Design was my strongest subject during my school years, particularly
the design element, so Graphic Design seemed a natural choice for
me to study at A-level.
During
this course I learned the basic elements of graphic design, and
began to use computer packages in my work, predominantly Photoshop.
I
went on to study a foundation course in Graphic Design at the Surrey
Institute of Art and Design, where I received a merit for the course.
During this time I was taught a lot more about the history of design,
and the importance of aesthetics.
The
Degree course at SIAD followed, during which I refined my skills
as a designer. I feel I have developed into a more well-rounded
designer because of it. During the course I have added to my knowledge
of programmes, and have become well-versed in Photoshop, Illustrator,
Quark Express, Flash, Dreamweaver and I-Movie.
I
have just completed the course, for which I received a Second Class
– Upper Division BA(Hons) in Graphic Design (Visual Communication).
Web
design has been of great interest to me recently, and I have just
completed my fifth full website for Swivel Skateshop, which will
be online soon. I am about to start work on a website for a local
syndicate of rock bands for the Hampshire area. You can view some
other sites I have designed at the following addresses:
http://listen.to/fboromassive
- This is a personal site about skateboarding. http://antihabit.tripod.com
- This was a 3rd Year assignment for SIAD. http://regiment36.tripod.com
- Temporary site for Regiment 36, The Rushmoor Borough Skateboard
and Bmx Society.
I
have been doing a lot of freelance work since the end of my degree
course.
I have produced other work for Swivel Skateshop, including a new
corporate
identity, three adverts for a related, nationwide magazine, an advert
for
the Yellow Pages, and several flyers and posters.
I
have also been working closely with local ska band, Working Lunch
with Lucky Goldstar. I’ve designed a new identity, two tshirt
designs (above), two pinbadge designs, stickers and the artwork
for their new e.p., ‘Five Reasons to like Our Band’
(above). I am currently designing artwork for their forthcoming
live dvd / video.
