ARTIST STATEMENT After graduation, I moved to Cornwall, after finding that most of my research and work was being produced from holidays and weekends spent in and around the many fishing villages and ports of this fantastic County! Most of the sketches and photographs I have collected, have yet to be turned into inspirational works of art and the images I have included are a fairly eclectic bundle of my recent work. However, I am particularly drawn to boats and harbours, being inspired by the shapes and forms of the fishing vessels, how they relate to one another and how they relate to their backgrounds and settings. I tend to work mostly in oil on canvas but for my life drawings I prefer to work in monochrome, using mixed medium including charcoal, conte, chalk, ink and pencil as I prefer the dramatic effect that black on white can produce. My painting style has been loosely described as "soft cubism" and I am happy to be labelled thus, although do not want to confine myself necessarily to one style of painting. |
