Artist Statement:
Working with acrylic on canvas Tinsel creates her own imagery, making paintings that are inspired by both her own photography and images from popular culture. She superimposes text on her canvases, creating ironic, humorous messages that juxtapose and complement the imagery, giving the work a highly nostalgic, yet contemporary feel that resonates with its own pop culture. Since graduating with a fine art degree in 2001, Tinsel has exhibited in several galleries nationwide. Commissions have included businesses such as Absolut Vodka. She has recently sold pieces of her work to a number of well known artists, Tinsel has also previously had widespread recognition from the likes of Cosmo , The Evening Standard and Time Out.
