Artist's statement

This piece is about the relationship between the shoe and the wearer. A sort of observation of people and their personalities.
Obviously, the main reason for footwear is protection, but the majority of people today forget this; fashion is their main priority. I believe a shoe can tell a lot about its wearer. Many of us like to judge people by their face. I, on the other hand prefer to judge people by the footwear.
My concept is very simple and straightforward. The idea that I'm trying to get across is that although we shield ourselves with different fashion footwear, underneath we are all made of the same thing; whatever sex, age or profession we are. And so you can see I have chosen a variety of people: a twenty-something builder, a baby, a middle-aged business man and an old lady.
Each canvass is 12"x 12". The two background colours are hand-painted with acrylic and a black image is screen printed.
