Statement:
My work takes
a traditional household object, the doily, out of its original context
and then abstracts and distorts it before placing it back in a domestic
space.
In order to create objects that have a relationship with various
surfaces, each piece is formed with a specific space in mind, initially
utilising corners initially as areas to work with.
Exploring the
technique of photo etching has allowed my work to make the translation
from graphic image to metal. The etching process is important as
it creates a sense of depth within the piece.
I have applied
light to create shadows with my initial pieces, this new interaction
has been a developmental tool for ongoing artwork.
The projection
of these shadows and other techniques can also communicate ideas
of scale. This whole process deals with the interplay of negative
and positive, utilising the space which would normally be insignificant
to become something just as substantial, if not more so, than the
original pieces.
