Statement:
kElzO is one of the only internationally renowned and respected graffiti
artist to come out of Manchester, England. Between the mid 80s to the
late 90s he almost single handedly created one of the biggest ‘Halls
of Fame’ in Europe. He turned the derelict high rises of Hulme in
Manchester, UK into a mass of colour and abstract letterforms with a spray
can and some imagination. This has gained him huge respect all around
the world by purveyors and admirers of this underground artform. Graffiti
has taken Kelzo to all corners of the world. Commissions have included
a painting on the set of the BBC's Eastenders, the Beastie Boys shop in
New York, designing window displays for Dr Martens shops in Europe, customising
clothing for Tommy Hilfiger in Europe and more recently Telephone covers
for Motorola handsets. He is now also one of the Graffiti editor’s
of Hip Hop Connection magazine. He currently paints live at outdoor festivals
such as Glastonbury and has launched a successful clothing label called
‘Urban Damage’. A new range of clothing is now available.
He is also highly sort after by councils to run workshops for young people
from deprived areas all across the Country. Over the years he has fine-tuned
his style and now excels in abstract 3D letterforms and portraits. His
exhibition at the new Arch bar (Aug 2002) in Hulme Manchester attracted
500 people on the opening night…..….
Scrawl 1 : Salvador
Dali and John Lennon on Canvas 5ft x 4ft. Dali Canvasses were painted
in Guelle Park, Barcelona, ejected by the police for using paint in the
park so both completed outside the Dali museum in Figueres.
