Statement:
Observing the condition we call humanity has always inspired my art.
I am very interested in emotion, personality and spirit and use my work
to explore my own understanding of people and life.
Over the past few years I have concentrated on expressing this by using
various mediums combined with a healthy mixture of humour, to produce
a group of paintings that are partly caricature in their presentation
and which reflect upon the diverse elements of human nature.
Major influences are Romanesque and Byzantine art; I am struck by how
beautiful, dramatic and powerful they are, in their humanistic and symbolic
content as well as for their primitiveness. I am also a great fan of Gauguin
and German Expressionism.
