Artist Statement:

rotting pots

The destructive process of galvanic corrosion is utilized in these time-based sculptures where copper vessels with aluminium stoppers are submerged in water so as to produce an electrochemical reaction.

the weatherproject
The weatherproject is a long-term collaboration in which people collect samples of weather at a time and location of their choosing. The documentation of these samples (presented on-line at www.weatherproject.npugh.co.uk) includes a standardised record slip and is often supplemented by photographs, postcards, tickets etc offering an insight into both the collector and the circumstances under which the collection was made...

vessels
Burnished and smoke-fired porcelain units are combined with metal and rubber attachments in a series of vessels that contrast traditional ceramic production techniques with modern materials.

Before studying Art and Design, Nicola was originally trained in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. Thus her work often demonstrates enquiry into the crossover between established disciplines.

Rather than specialising in one particular medium, Nicola's breadth of skills (ranging from welding to web-design) and willingness to incorporate new techniques enable her to tackle varied projects within her practice.
