Statement:
This project deals with the notion of the truth in regard to the actions
of the British Government over the last 50 years of military interventions
and the efforts to suppress this information from the general public.
The work is based in the studio and the dark, faceless figures create
a haunting void, and a feeling of apathy towards the scene. The truth
as we know it is a media creation, and excessive exposure to constant
war on television eventually becomes insipid, and we?re left with an indifference
towards the conflict. Those involved become faceless, and the scene we
recognise could be anywhere. The void I create allows for the media-inspired
war scene to take prominence in the viewer?s mind. However, the interest
for me in these cases is what is not seen on the television. By acknowledging
that censorship, information ?framing? and blatant propaganda is occurring
in society, the truth becomes almost unattainable. My hope is that one
day the truth will again be the norm in our lives.
