Artist
Statement
By June 2004 I will have completed my BA(Hons) Fine Art
Degree at Nottingham Trent University. The images shown on this page are
taken from my work in the run up to my degree show. I have also recently
entered work into the Hype Gallery Exhibition in London.
My interests lie in fashion and interiors combined with
culturally related issues. Over the past year I have been dabbling with
screen-printing and installation. I also am adept with Adobe Photoshop
and continually use it within my work in order to manipulate and create
new and exciting imagery.
Current Work
‘Self-Portrait
– Living with Denial’
In this installation
I am attempting to mislead the audience through the ambiguity within my
imagery. (The actual person depicted within my work is Natalie Portman
as one of her characters from Star Wars; my doppelganger). My objective
is aided by the intentional misuse of the term, ‘self-portrait’,
within the deceptive title. I feel this reflects the way society is deluded
by today’s consumer market. The use of the repetitive Warhol style
pattern is to emphasise the mass-produced world of consumerism within
which we function. Consequently indicating to my awareness of this implied
deception, but admitting to my own indulgence despite that fact. Finally,
questioning the outcome of turning this concept on its head; what are
you left with?
