These
photographs are selected from a body of work, and they are
intended to be modern interpretations of fairy tales and
childhood stories such as Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland.
Infrared film was used to create intense colours and to
blur the images, which were then printed onto canvas. The
canvas lends a painterly dimension to the prints, creating
a stark tonal quality, reminiscent of children’s book
illustration and of movie stills. The pictures highlight
themes from children’s stories, such as conflict,
fear and isolation as the images are abstracted, blurred,
and evoke feelings of uncertainty.
