Artist Statement: Since graduating from Norwich school of art BA in 1999, SF has been a prolific exponent of " abstract escapism," seeking an other place than the troubles of an ever complex 21 st century. The viewer is invited cordially upon a journey of illusory glazed oil paint through fumeroles, megellanic gasses, surf and nimbus and in so doing meets the artists inner state, often contemplative, restful but also embattled, dualistic. SF''s work often plays upon the formal as a device through which to communicate inevitable disparities and relationships of the outer over the inner. The paint {like the artist} is in an eternal paradox as both illusion and medium. The paintings display a sensitive, patient and intelligently spiritual individual and the struggles of being so in a "seen it all, don’t care" world.
